Academics

The College has a staff of experienced specialist teachers with a teacher ratio of approximately one teacher per twelve learners. The average class size varies between 12 – 14 learners. Students are taught to study, encouraged to ask questions frequently in class and to seek help from their tutors as necessary. Regular progress reports (seven per year) are sent to parents. Career guidance is also an intricate part of our focus.

Learners are treated as young adults within a sensible, monitored and supportive environment, and in turn are expected to behave accordingly. A culture of trust, mutual respect and honesty is encouraged. Students are taught to realise that a great deal of focussed study is required of them. They are encouraged to develop self-discipline, a sense of responsibility, and personal accountability. The college practices a zero tolerance to drugs and has a sensible, encouraging code of conduct which is respected and supported by the learners.

Homework is set and daily home study is expected; all assignments are checked and marked, with frequent evaluations taking place. Regular tests are written in preparation for the mid year and final examinations.

Regular attendance is essential and a requirement for all learners.

  • REALITY; need to achieve above 50 / 60% for all subjects to stand a chance of meeting individual university entrance requirements for degree studies.

How do you calculate your admission point score (APS)?

  • Fill out your subjects in Table A (NSC Subjects) and enter the rating you obtained in the most recent examination (NSC Achievement Rating). Then check the points you earn for each rating as shown in Table below and enter it in the last column (Points for ASP). Now calculate your ASP as sum of the entries in the Points for APS column. Now compare to the specific course requirements for the university you wish to apply for. (calculation method may vary between universities based on different subject weights allocated)
NSC Rating NSC % Points for APS % for APS
8 90-100%
7 80-100% 7 80-89%
